On 18 June 2008, Transport for London switched on Cobalt Telephone Technologies' automated payment services. Now motorists who drive into the London Congestion Zone without prior payment, and are subsequently fined, can pay their penalty on-line or via an automated phone line.
One week in, and the service is demonstrating why it is so successful across the Capital. Over the last seven days, the automated phone system has raked in £225,000 of fines; with a further £110,000 paid over the web. Even at this early stage, this means that more than £17 million worth of fines will be processed through Cobalt's systems each year, from this contract alone.
Joanna Miller, Technical Director for Cobalt Telephone Technologies' says of the implementation "Anything related to Transport for London is large scale, sensitive and high profile and we are especially pleased that this roll out has gone extremely smoothly and efficiently. The take up so far has been great and we look forward to levels growing as more people learn of, and try out, the service."
The Transport for London implementation was completed in partnership with NCP services and builds on Cobalt's existing PCN payment offerings across London.
