Hammers come knocking again

 27th Feb 2001

More interest in the Cobalt IVR ticketing product bubbled up today with the announcement of a two phase upgrade to the existing Cobalt system installed at West Ham United's Upton Park ground. The phased upgrade coincides with a major redevelopment of the stadium.  The current system, which has been operational for two years, allows the tens of thousands of supporters wishing to attend the games at Upton Park to book their tickets by credit or debit card without the need to visit the ground or even speak to a member of the box-office team.

WHUFC Box Office Manager, Steve Kitcher has been pleased with the performance of the system: "Effectively managing the huge demand for cup tickets from our season ticket holders has always been an issue. Only recently we had just five days in which to sell 26,000 tickets. At high pressure times like this the Cobalt IVR system has shown itself to be a very valuable aid, particularly as it can sell tickets around the clock".  The first stage of the upgrade is taking place alongside a corresponding upgrade to the ticketing system which moves from a UNIX to a SQL based system. The second stage allows a deeper integration to take place to the Meridian switch which serves the ground.

Note to editors

West Ham United has, throughout this century, been a prominent team in English football notably appearing in the first ever Wembley F.A. Cup Final. Located at Upton Park since 1904, major work is now going on with the construction of the brand new Dr Martens stand which will increase the capacity of the whole stadium to 32,000 seats and substantially reduce the number of restricted view seats.
