Over 7,000 parking spaces a month in Oxford City Council car parks have been paid using the RingGo service.
The service was launched a year ago when just under 1,500 parking spaces a month were being paid for by phone.
To
celebrate the anniversary staff from Oxford City Council will be on
hand on Thursday 21 May to help people in Worcester Street and
Gloucester Green car parks to use the system.
A recent survey
carried out of RingGo users in Oxford found that two thirds of users
are male but many women are firm regulars, clocking up more than 100
parking payments, each.
One driver uses RingGo virtually every working day, paying Oxford City for parking 240 times since launch.
The
survey also found that most users 93 per cent would like to see the
service extended and 70 per cent would like it extended to on-street
parking.
Others would like to see it introduced in other
Oxfordshire towns but the most common request was for it to be
available nationwide.
Martin Lee, Commercial Director of
Buildbase, who uses the service, says: "RingGo is a very convenient way
of paying for parking. I would like to see it anywhere that you have to
pay for parking. It makes the whole process of parking your car much
smoother as you don't have to worry about finding loose change for the
parking meter."
Andrew Bradfield-Barnes, Oxford City Council's
Parking Manager, says: "We are delighted with the success of RingGo so
far and we are working towards getting 10,000 parking sessions a month
by this time next year.
"The service is well thought through and
people like using it. On our anniversary we want to encourage more
people to use the service so we are making it a 'Ring the Changes' day
and encouraging people to try out the system.
"Our staff will be on hand in Worcester Street and Gloucester Green car parks to help anyone who wants to know more."
Harry Clarke, Commercial Director of RingGo, says: "We're delighted RingGo has operated so well in Oxford.
"Ever
since its launch here, motorists have shown their liking for and
loyalty to the service - but even we have been surprised by the
positive feedback we are now receiving.
"From our point of view, the City of Oxford, both now and in the future, is definitely a case of 'Ring' and 'Grow'!"
